This hand built rustic vase began as a slab of a rough clay, was imprinted with leaves from my backyard, then formed into a cylinder by overlapping one side of the slab over the other side to create a visible seam. When the cylinder had dried enough, I attached a small round slab to form the bottom of the vase, also accentuating the seam. As mentioned, this particular clay body itself is very rough, It demanded to be formed into a rustic, unrefined vessel! This vase has a lot of texture, including what looks like some holes from the imprint of a leaf stem. The imprint leads one to think that the vase will leak, but it doesn't! There is plenty of fired clay and glaze on the inside.
This vase pairs well with Item 3123, Rustic Leaf Vase #2. Due to the hand built process, the buyer should know that the vases are not the same height and width, but they are close.
